Structure VIII (1975/2009)

from The Otto Laske Collection Part Two: Electronic Music by Otto Laske

/

about

Structure VIII shares with other works composed at the Instituut voor Sonologie, Utrecht, The Netherlands, that it is based on a computer-generated score (Koenig’s Project One) and the newest available computer sound sources emerging in the 1970s.

In its present form, the piece is a complete reworking of the 1975 original, both in sound and form. I transformed and enriched sounds computed in Utrecht by reworking the original score, enhancing its original sonic output by mixing it with sounds produced by Scarletti's ‘Kyma’ System. Sound materials taken from the original piece are used selectively throughout. At the end of the composition, characteristic sequences of the original work emerge in full, like a memory.
